Coming on board
Adherence to BSL policy and procedure is a condition of volunteering with us.
BSL reimburses all costs associated with volunteer screening. We support all of our volunteers to undertake necessary checks prior to starting your volunteer role.
Checks may include:
- A criminal history check
- Working with Children check
- Aged care statutory declaration
- VicRoads Driver history reports
- If you work with people living with disabilities, you may also be subject to extra screening processes.
Your rights and responsibilities
Your safety and the safety of those in our programs and services is paramount to us.
You have the right to:
- volunteer in a healthy and safe environment
- be provided with sufficient training and induction to perform your volunteer role
- be interviewed and involved in accordance with equal opportunity and anti-discrimination legislation
- have access to policies and procedures which affect you
- have access to a grievance procedure
- be reimbursed for authorised out-of-pocket expenses
- be given accurate and truthful information about BSL
- have your confidential and personal information dealt with in accordance with the principles of the Privacy Act 1988.
All BSL volunteers are expected to:
- report all injuries, near misses and hazards
- respect confidentiality and privacy
- adhere to all BSL policies and procedures
- undertake training and ask for support when needed
- be punctual, reliable and give notice when your availability changes
- treat everyone with integrity, honesty, dignity and respect
