Hutch Hussein
Senior Manager of Government Relations and Advocacy
Hutch Hussein joined BSL in 2012 and has held various roles overseeing service delivery and capacity building work with migrant and refugee communities, as well as refugee policy advocacy. Social work trained, she has worked with at risk young people, family violence survivors and people of refugee, asylum seeking and migrant backgrounds.
In over 25 years of paid and voluntary leadership roles, she has progressed gender equality, positive settlement outcomes for newly arrived refugee communities and undertaken systemic policy advocacy to foster greater inclusion.
Prior to her BSL role, she was the Deputy CEO at Spectrum Migrant Centre and worked as a policy adviser to a former Victorian Minister for Education and Women’s Affairs in the Bracks Government. She also currently serves on the Board of Our Watch, the national violence prevention agency. In all roles, she has advocated with and for communities facing disadvantage.
