The Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL) congratulates the newly elected members of the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria, including its co-chairs: Meriki Onus, from the Gunai and Gunditjmara mobs, and Dja Dja Wurrung, Wamba Wamba, Yorta Yorta, Dhudhuroa, Waywurru, Barapa Barapa, Wergaia and Wiradjuri man Djaran Murray-Jackson.
This Assembly is the first of the Treaty era, which has established Gellung Warl as the permanent representative and deliberative body for Traditional Owners and First Peoples in Victoria.
BSL is proud to stand in solidarity with First Nations people, and to support Australia’s first Treaty process in Victoria and the Victorian Government’s work towards reconciliation, including commitment to ongoing truth telling, and reaffirm our own unwavering commitment to reconciliation and ongoing truth telling.
