The Brotherhood of St Laurence op shop in Grovedale is marking a decade of serving the community in true local style. Run by a team of dedicated staff and volunteers, the iconic warehouse-sized store represents more than low priced clothing, furniture and electrical appliances.

Like the Brotherhood itself, the store is about community connections.Store manager John Kirk, who has been the face of the op shop for the entire 10 years, describes it as a "wonderful experience".

"I have so enjoyed working with our wonderful volunteers and meeting new people," Mr Kirk said.Volunteer Siona Connors is a familiar face at the store, generously giving her time since 2007.

"I really enjoy coming here," Ms Connors said.

"I like having something to do and wanted to do something for our community. I have met a lot of people, which is lovely, and have made many friends." The Brotherhood is one of Geelong and the South West region's largest community service organisations.

To celebrate 10 years at 194 Torquay Road, Grovedale, the store will be offering special half-price promotions all week from Monday, September 9.

There will also be a sausage sizzle on Saturday, September 19, cooked by our local scout group, the 1st Belmont Scout Group.
