The Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL) welcomes the introduction of the Child Support and Family Assistance Legislation Amendment (Ending Financial Abuse in the Child Support Scheme) Bill.

For too long, gaps in the child support system have left some parents and children vulnerable to financial abuse and harm. These reforms would put safety first, strengthen protections for families experiencing family violence, and help ensure children receive the financial support they need and deserve.

BSL, along with other stakeholders including the Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee, has long been advocating for reforms to child support. We hope that this important legislation will be passed by the parliament.
