Harriet came to Australia from Zambia at the age of 18. After she arrived she worked hard to complete a university degree in commerce with the dream of a career in accounting and finance, but a serious car accident left her struggling with trauma and financial issues.

An African-Australian family heard about her struggles and took her in as their own, but she was still unable to get the break she needed in her chosen field, despite persistent searching. She found work, but in less skilled rolls in an unrelated industry.
Harriet's life turned around when her new family suggested she contact the Brotherhood's Work and Learning Centre . She was linked with a Brotherhood Work and Learning Advisor who was able to assist her with job applications, interviews and her resume to get her on the right track.
Even more important was the opportunity of a work placement in finance through the Brotherhood's Given the Chance program . Harriet was offered a role with ANZ as a customer service consultant. She has been there for the past eight months and loves it! In fact, she has earned an award in ANZ's Star Recognition program for self motivation, initiative and productivity.
Harriet credits her success to personal determination and the support of her mentors at ANZ and the Brotherhood.
