Engagement and delivery

Climate Safe Homes delivered 148 upgrades in 126 homes.

Upgrades included:

  • 74 reverse-cycle air-conditioners
  • 67 solar upgrades
  • 7 insulation upgrades

The participant experience of CSH has been overwhelmingly positive for most households, with 86 per cent reporting the program was ‘very useful’ and a further 9 per cent ‘somewhat useful’.

We engaged:

  • 16 partners across health, community, aged care and energy retailers.
  • 286 referrals
  • 233 eligible households enrolled
  • 166 eligible households provided assistance through upgrade streams

The quality of service provided was considered ‘high quality’ or ‘very high quality’ by 97 per cent of participants rating the BSL team and by 79 per cent of participants rating the suppliers installing the upgrades.

Equity of access

Seventy-seven per cent of solar recipients and 69 per cent of reverse cycle recipients reported they were unlikely or very unlikely to have upgraded without CSH support. Barriers to upgrades included cost, complexity and a lack of access to trustworthy suppliers.

For every $1 of philanthropic subsidy funding, CSH leveraged an additional $2.74, resulting in a total impact of $3.74 per dollar.

Policy change

Insights from CSH were used to inform successful advocacy (with partners) for minimum energy efficiency standards for rented homes in Victoria and an equity provision in the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.
