World Gratitude Day
It’s when we say thank you!
Tuesday 21 September is World Gratitude Day. We take this opportunity to say Thank You.
First celebrated in 1965, it was later adopted by the United Nations and is now recognised each year as a day to show appreciation for all things, big and small.
For World Gratitude Day this year, it’s important to recognise that we’re living in a unique moment in time. From the devastation of bushfires, through to the emergence of a global pandemic, this last 18 months has impacted us all.
Despite the challenges though, there are many things that we can be grateful for at the Brotherhood of St. Laurence. This includes the dedication of our entire BSL community who continue to deliver on our mission to help those experiencing poverty and disadvantage.
Our Acting Executive Director, Lucia Boxelaar, expresses her thanks to everyone for their continued perseverance over the past 18 months in the video below.

Our Board Chair, Stephen Newton, has also shared the below message here as well as in the video below.
On this World Gratitude Day, I want to take the opportunity to thank every member of staff and volunteer at BSL.
In the months since I became Board Chair, I have been learning about our organisation. Through my initial visits to our sites, through my involvement in discussions across the many areas of our organisation, I have been able to see and experience first hand your tremendous dedication and hard work, the impression that this has left me with is one of your deep commitment.I have been inspired by this and I'm proud to join you as a member of our team. From research to programs from policy to practice, through the various supporting roles that enable our work.
We are all, together, making a significant impact on the lives of many. And I do not underestimate the additional challenges that the COVID environment brings.
From me personally, and from me on behalf of the whole Board, thank you for all that you are doing. We are deeply grateful. Stay safe and stay well.
Stephen Newton, AO, Board Chair, BSL
