BSL welcomes $1 million funding commitment for Thrive Hubs
Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL) today welcomed a $1 million funding commitment for Thrive Hubs in Frankston and Broadmeadows from the Australian Labor Party (ALP).
Initially funded as a pilot by the Victorian Government, BSL Thrive Hubs operate in partnership with councils and local organisations to empower individuals to achieve their career aspirations and enhance their capacity for employment or further education.
Speaking about the program’s impact, BSL Youth Advisor Rhianna Malas said, “The Thrive Hubs in Frankston and Broadmeadows are vital for all young people to have a reliable, safe, and secure space to explore their futures and goals freely.”
BSL Executive Director Travers McLeod welcomed the $1 million investment from the ALP. "This represents an important step towards rebuilding the employment services system, given the recommendation of the Regional Hubs in the Workforce Australia Inquiry,” Dr McLeod said today.
“The collaboration between State and Federal Governments in funding the Hubs together reflects the joint investment needed to boost economic participation amongst disadvantaged communities too often left behind in the labour market.”
Dr McLeod said Thrive Hubs function as comprehensive resource centres, seamlessly connecting community members to a wide range of services, ensuring they receive timely and appropriate assistance.
“Tailored to meet the unique needs of each community, our Thrive Hubs collaborate with industry experts, training providers, and individuals with lived experience to develop effective employment and educational pathways.
“This collaborative model fosters economic and social inclusion by growing confidence and capability, ultimately leading to sustainable employment outcomes and more connected and resilient communities.
“Thrive Hubs help people to secure meaningful and sustainable jobs, and local businesses to access a highly motivated and supported workforce – a win-win for the community they serve.”
