Thank you for attending the 2024 Sambell Oration and supporting the Brotherhood of St. Laurence.

Measuring poverty in Australia is important because it helps us understand how many people are struggling to afford basic things like health care, a place to live and education.

Based on income alone, about 1 in 7 people in Australia live in poverty. That’s around 3.5 million+ people.

By measuring poverty accurately, policymakers can identify vulnerable populations, allocate resources more effectively, and track progress towards alleviating poverty.

It’s time Australia had a national definition of poverty and a better way to measure it more comprehensively.

Your donation will be used where it's needed most – ensuring that your gift is as impactful as possible.
