Passion for dressmaking

Roya Hossein

“Making dresses is my passion. It is what I know and love. So I thought to continue with my passion here in Australia.”

Roya came to Australia from Iran as an asylum seeker, and spent nearly two years in detention. On receiving her work rights, she was eager to start a dressmaking business, like the one she had in Iran.

Before starting the Stepping Stones program, Roya thought doing business was impossible in Australia, but now she says: “I know it is possible. I can do it. Stepping Stones is very good for me. It makes me brave and helps me a lot. I now know what to say and do.”

Sewing by Roya is a small start-up business, specialising in dressmaking and bespoke designs to suit all ages and tastes. All garments are made with special care and attention and are sold at affordable prices.
