Dementia Resources Library

Our Dementia Resources Library offers a range of items to provide pleasure, stimulation and relaxation for people living with dementia.

The library collection is based in the Melbourne eastern suburb of Ringwood and includes publications about dementia, as well as games and various items such as:

  • reminiscing kits –items to prompt reflection on the past such as gramophone and LP records
  • tactile experience kits– items of different textures for sensory exploration
  • ‘busy hands’ kits – items to maintain fine motor skills
  • activity kits based on the Montessori education method 
  • music therapy items such as instruments to create and listen to sound
  • child representation dolls to hold and nurture
  • cultural kits – items to explore cultures such as a Chinese kit which includes a mahjong game, tea set and folding fan

How to borrow

The Brotherhood developed and manages the collection, which is held at Realm in Ringwood – Maroondah City Council’s library and cultural centre.

To borrow from the Dementia Resources Library you will need to first join Eastern Regional Libraries which is free, and then pay an annual fee to become a member of the Dementia Resources Library.  

  • Individual memberships fee – $30 per year
  • Organisations fee – $110 per year

Browse the collection here to put items on hold for collection during the hours listed on that page. Delivery can be arranged in certain circumstances.

Items can be borrowed by people living with dementia, as well as family members, friends and professional care workers.
