Independent Living Units

Our secure and affordable Independent Living units in Fitzroy in inner Melbourne allow older people on low incomes to live independently in a location that’s close to shops, parks, services and public transport.

Living in their own homes gives our tenants stability, peace of mind and choices in how they live their lives.

Our secure-tenure units are at three locations in Fitzroy:

  • Millott House, 116 Fitzroy Street
    Nine furnished bedsitters, each with an en suite and a kitchenette, and a shared laundry.
  • Sidney Myer House, 116 Fitzroy Street
    15 bedsitters with en suites, and a shared kitchen, laundry and spacious common living room.
  • Palmer Street, 136-138 Palmer Street
    10 one-bedroom flats, fully self-contained. 

We provide some furnishings such as beds and small fridges and can assist with other furnishings.


All units are rented at a low cost. The exact amount depends on an individual assessment.

Who is eligible

A person may be eligible for one of our Independent Living units if they:

  • are 50 years or older
  • are on a low income and have few assets
  • have not been a property owner in the past two years.
