IMPROVE THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF YOUR HOME
From June to December the Brotherhood of St Laurence is offering a limited number of FREE home energy efficiency assessments to eligible households, using the state government’s new Victorian Residential Efficiency Scorecard.
This is part of the Brotherhood's work on energy efficiency.
What is the Victorian Residential Efficiency Scorecard?
The Victorian Residential Efficiency Scorecard is an Australian-first home energy rating program. The Scorecard rates the energy efficiency of your home and provides tailored recommendations for home improvements.
How does it work?
An experienced energy assessor from the Brotherhood of St Laurence (accredited by the Victorian Government) visits your home to collect information about its energy use. This is based on fixed features, such as heating, cooling and hot water systems, as well as the construction and design of your home.
A two-page Scorecard certificate is then generated. This includes an energy efficiency ‘star rating’ for your home and ways you can improve it.
The assessment will help you make informed choices about improving your living environment, while saving money on gas and electricity bills.
Are you eligible?
You are eligible if you are a Victorian home owner or renter and:
- hold a Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card or DVA Gold Card, or
- are in energy or bill stress.
People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, those who have a chronic health condition and Brotherhood aged and community care clients are encouraged to apply.
Register here if you are interested in an assessment.
Phone 1800 830 029 and we will talk you through the registration process.
Frequently asked questions
Why have an assessment?
The Scorecard gives you a star rating for your home, in the same way as a fridge or washing machine has a star rating. The star rating represents the running cost of the fixed appliances in your home. It will guide you to make home improvements efficiently and cost effectively.
What do the stars mean?
The Scorecard certificate gives your home a star rating out of 10. This represents the average cost of energy for your home. One star means low performance and 10 stars means high performance.
Is the assessment completely free?
Yes, for eligible households in this strictly limited trial, the assessment is FREE and without obligation. The trial is funded by the Victorian Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning. The Brotherhood of St Laurence delivers the assessments.
How long does it take?
The assessment can take from 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the size of your house and any questions you might like to ask the assessor.
When will my home be assessed?
On an agreed date and time between July and December.
