The evaluation team

The EFYF evaluation aims to figure out the best possible program model for achieving sustainable outcomes — regarding education, employment, housing, health and wellbeing, social connection, and civic participation — for young people who are at risk of, or experiencing homelessness.


Joseph Borlagdan

Joseph Borlagdan is the Research and Policy Manager for the Through School to Work transition at the Brotherhood of St Laurence. Joseph gained a PhD in Sociology from Flinders University. In previous roles he worked as a Research Fellow for the Australian Drug Foundation, and as a Senior Researcher at the National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction. Joseph has contributed to long-term, large-scale research about young people in the health and alcohol and other drug fields.


Deborah Keys

Deborah Keys is the Senior Researcher from Launch Housing Welfare Services. She has been conducting research in the homeless sector for more than a decade, working on projects such as the Children and Homelessness Project, Empowering Young Mothers and Project i. She has also worked at Melbourne Law School and Melbourne Citymission. She obtained her PhD in Sociology from La Trobe University in 2002 and her Masters in Sociology in 1994.


Nicky McColl Jones

Nicky McColl Jones is a Research Officer at the Brotherhood of St Laurence, where she has contributed to several large research projects ranging across the life-course from early childhood to retirement and ageing. Nicky also has five years experience working in the homelessness sector in the provision of services and advocacy and graduated in December 2013 as a Bachelor of Social Work from Charles Sturt University. She is currently a fieldworker on the Education First Youth Foyers Evaluation, collecting data from young people through surveys and interviews.


Aradhana Barua

Aradhana Barua is a Research Assistant with the Foyer Team and also works with the Equity in Response to Climate Change team at the Brotherhood of St Laurence. She holds a Master’s degree in Botany specialising in Ecology and a Bachelor of Education from Gauhati University, India. Her previous experience includes work as a teacher, researcher and research assistant.


Evaluation Advisory Group
