Early Years Program Assistant
Provide support and assistance in the delivery of early childhood programs.
Hours: 12 hours per week. Mon 12 -3, Tue 10 – 1, Thurs 9 – 12 and Fri 9 – 12
Summary of program and its objectives
Growing Learners is a targeted early intervention program for families with children 0-3.
- to build parent confidence and capacity as their child’s first teacher
- value and extend learning opportunities in everyday life
- improve the quality of the Home Learning Environment
- develop secure attachment relationships with their babies and children
- enhance children’s development through access to quality strength based early childhood experiences
- facilitate parents and children accessing support and networks within their community.
Main responsibilities of the role
Working under the direction of the Growing Learner Coordinator and support facilitators the key responsibilities and duties of this volunteer position will include the ensuring families feel welcome and included in the early years setting through being respectful, inclusive and mindful of diverse cultural and family structures; assisting in the organisation and implementation of a safe, stimulating, positive and enjoyable learning environment for children and families; assisting in the provision of a program and environment that recognises, values and respects the cultural and religious backgrounds of all families; assisting in the provision of a program and environment that promotes the development of self-esteem, security, independence and self-confidence; assisting in the setting up and packing up of the environment; modelling age appropriate play with children and support parents to participate in the play experiences, as appropriate; reporting any concerns about a child or parent to the Growing Learners Coordinator; communicating with parents in a professional and positive manner; assisting in maintaining the general tidiness and hygiene of the setting; working effectively as part of a team, and undertaking other related duties within the scope of the role and of the incumbent’s competence and training, as directed by the Manager.
To meet the selection criteria, candidate will require:
- early Childhood tertiary qualification or working toward- minimum Certificate III Children's Services or other relevant qualification
- knowledge of early childhood development and learning
- good interpersonal skills in building positive connections and trusting relationships with children and families from diverse backgrounds
- good time management and organisational skills
- reliable and flexible in the work environment
- ability to work effectively within a team environment and use initiative
- understanding of and sympathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood.
- working knowledge of national and Victorian Early Years Learning Frameworks
- experience working with families from diverse cultural backgrounds and an ability to speak a community language other than English
- ability to speak a second language (Arabic, Assyrian).
