An exciting opportunity exists to provide professional, person centered care and support to Residential Aged Care residents in accordance with their individual care plans.
Summary of program and its objectives
The Retirement and Ageing Division provides residential aged care services, independent living accommodation for people on low incomes, in home care and day and respite services for older people and people with disabilities.
The Retirement, Ageing and Disability Strategic Plan 2015-2020 clusters around seven strategic priorities: financial security and sustainable livelihoods; community building and social engagement; ageing in a complex technological and information society; wellbeing and care; cognitive decline and dementia; competition and the market; and a body of reliable knowledge to inform policy and practice.
The Brotherhood aims to be the leader in aged care in Victoria, not only in the provision of quality services but also in undertaking research, policy development and advocating on behalf of our consumers and the sector. At the Brotherhood the focus is enabling older people who access our services to flourish. Our service model is based on person centred care and the Enhancing Capabilities Approach which ensures that older people experience a trusting environment that provides opportunities and choices that enable them to live the lives they value and maximise the older person’s independence and autonomy. This encompasses valuing diversity including cultural preferences, sexual orientation and gender identity.
Residential Aged Care: Specialised facilities which provide accommodation and other types of support including healthcare support, dementia management and lifestyle and enrichment programs. These include:
- Sambell Lodge: located in Clifton Hill and provides accommodation and support for 43 residents in and environment that is responsive to the needs of each individual and fosters maximum resident independence and autonomy.
- Sumner House: located in Fitzroy and provides accommodation and support for 42 residents in an environment that is responsive to the needs of each individual and fosters maximum resident independence and autonomy.
Main responsibilities of the role
The Personal Care Worker provides professional, person centered care and support to the Residential Aged Care residents in accordance with their individual care plans and the policies and procedures. Additionally, this position works with the clinical care team to foster maximum resident independence and autonomy.
To meet the selection criteria, candidate will require:
- minimum qualification of Certificate Level III in Individual Support (Aged Care) or equivalent
- demonstrated experience in a similar position in residential aged care
- proven understanding of and ability to support compliance with Aged Care Standards, Food Safety and other professional and legislative requirements which affect day to day care and other services for clients
- well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work co-operatively with diverse, multicultural workforce and client base to achieve outcomes
- well-developed time management skills to plan own time and review own schedule to manage priorities to achieve key outcomes of the position
- understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood.
- completion of Assist clients with Medication competency - or willingness to obtain one within the first few months of employment
- hold a valid food handling certificate or willingness to obtain one within the first few months of employment.
There are multiple part time and casual positions available with working hours to be agreed upon with the successful candidates. Salary will be in the range of $45,073 to $46,669 per annum– pro rata per annum, based on skills and experience plus superannuation. Attractive salary packaging provisions are available to increase take home pay.

The Brotherhood works with children, youth and vulnerable people and requires all staff to undertake a Police Check and, where applicable, a Working with Children check, prior to commencement. A person's criminal history does not automatically exclude an individual from working or volunteering at the Brotherhood. Police Checks are administered and paid for by the Brotherhood.
