Exciting opportunities exist working as part of a team to support and assist people with dementia, disabilities, socially isolated and older people to participate and engage in community life.


Summary of program and its objectives

Social Support and Respite Care offers a wide range of supports and services to assist people living with dementia, older people and older people with disabilities to identify, plan and access activities of choice according to their needs, dreams and aspirations as well as engage in community life. Services include respite care, centre based programs, In Home support, overnight stays, as well as a range of social support programs within the centre, home and community.

Main responsibilities of the role

The Community Support Worker works as part of a team to support and assist people with dementia, disabilities, socially isolated and older people to participate and engage in community life. At the Brotherhood the first responsibilities of care are to enable consumers to flourish. Our model of service is based on the Enhancing Capabilities Approach which is to ensure that our clients live in a trusting environment that provides the opportunities and choices that enable them to live lives they have reason to value.

To meet the selection criteria, candidate will require:

  • Relevant qualification such as Certificate III in Individual support or Aged Care or equivalent
  • Experience/training in working with/assisting older people, people with disabilities and/or dementia demonstrating sensitivity to the needs of people from different economic and diverse backgrounds
  • Proven ability to work independently and as an effective team member to achieve objectives
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people across all levels both internally and externally
  • Well-developed time management and organisational skills including the ability to plain workload, prioitise and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competency in Microsoft Office Programs including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Current Victorian Drivers License and an ability to drive a mini bus
  • Understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood

Desirable

  • experience in developing, organising, facilitating and evaluating inclusive community, recreation and leisure activities
  • hold a valid food handling certificate or willingness to obtain one within the first few months of employment.

There are two part time 12 month maximum term positions available working a minimum of 12 hours per week. Shifts will be allocated to both positions on a rotating roster and will predominately include 1:1 supports within the In Home Program and other program areas that provide 1:1 support. Other shifts will be available to cover unplanned leave and annual leave within all program areas. Successful candidates will need to be willing to work flexibly as per operational requirements. 

Salary will be in the range of $50,221.60 - $54,797.60 per annum (pro rata), based on skills and experience plus superannuation. Attractive salary packaging provisions are available to increase take home pay.
