Refugee Youth Development Program

About the program

The Refugee Youth Development Program (RYDP) gives young refugees the capacity to find their own pathways, develop as leaders and become involved with their communities. It does this through a range of learning activities that build confidence, skills and resilience.

The program is funded by the Victorian Office of Youth through a Youth Participation and Access grant.

RYDP activities include:

  • a Youth Advisory Committee for CALD young leaders interested in discussing common issues and working together to plan community advocacy activities and offer guidance to the RYDP
  • Phucha Pathways, which helps young people identify their future (phucha) goals and connects them to education and training support services. The program includes weekly activities and youth-led community performances throughout the year.

Who is eligible?

Refugees are eligible for RYPD if they are between 16 and 25 years of age.

Features

RYDP offers:

  • skills in leadership, communication, teamwork and self-confidence for young people
  • workshops and activities that engage young people
  • varied active learning methods, which might include performing hip hop or making comic books.
