Nexus Respite Services

Nexus Community and Respite Disability Services offer two respite services for carers. Respite and Life Options is for older carers of people with a disability, and Individual Respite Options is for carers of people over 25 years of age with a disability.

Respite and Life Options

Offered in Melbourne’s south and on the Mornington Peninsula, this service provides respite for older carers and also helps them and their families plan ahead for their loved one’s future.

The service includes guidance in areas such as financial planning and will writing, and can also involve helping the person with a disability gain independent living skills, develop a circle of friends and form community connections.

Respite and Life Options also provides carers with leisure activities and social events, where they can pursue interests, meet with other carers and hear expert advice from guest speakers.

The service offers:

  • links to services to assist with future planning, including finances, guardianship and writing wills
  • help with making plans in case of an emergency
  • respite activities and social events
  • support from other carers and staff
  • guest speakers
  • resource materials
  • carer support networks.

Individual Respite Options

This service provides a break for carers of people over 25 years of age with a disability, while their loved one receives respite care. The service is offered in addition to any respite services the carer is currently receiving.

Individual and Respite Options is offered in Melbourne’s south and on the Mornington Peninsula.

The service is tailored to meet individual needs and can include:

  • in-home support
  • peer group support
