About Independent Living
The Brotherhood’s Independent Living service provides secure, affordable housing to older people on low incomes to allow them to live independently.
We understand that living at home can help an older person maintain a sense of wellbeing and quality of life. Our secure tenure accommodation gives tenants stability and the confidence to feel settled.
We operate four Independent Living sites in inner Melbourne. All are close to shops and transport.
Who is eligible?
A person may be eligible for Independent Living if:
- they are 50 years or older
- they are on a low income and have few assets
- they have not been a property owner in the past two years.
Independent Living sites
We operate the following three sites:
- Millott House, Fitzroy – nine furnished bedsitters with shared laundry facilities
- Palmer Street, Fitzroy – 10 one-bedroom flats
- Sidney Myer House, Fitzroy – 15 bedsitters with shared kitchen, a spacious common living room area and laundry facilities.
