Josie
Josie, a 44-year-old single mother, worked in administration in the Melbourne CBD for over 20 years, but after suffering health problems associated with long hours spent on a computer, she needed a career change. Through the Brotherhood Josie became a Family Day Care worker, caring for and educating children in her home. She has never been happier.

Awen
Like every parent, Awen – a 22-year-old mother of two – was hoping for positive feedback when she attended her eldest child’s first-ever parent–teacher interview. Awen and some of her family had arrived in Australia in 2006 after fleeing war-torn Sudan for Egypt, where they had remained for five difficult years before being accepted into Australia as refugees. She wanted the best start for her daughter’s new life in Australia

Thu

Almost 10 years ago, Thu began teaching her four-year-old daughter with the help of the Brotherhood’s Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters, or HIPPY. A home tutor visited Thu at home to help her prepare her child for school.
