Governor-General’s visit highlights special role of women at Brotherhood

The Brotherhood of St Laurence is very pleased to host the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, for a luncheon with the Brotherhood’s Women’s Network on Tuesday 15th June 2012. The Governor-General will also visit aged clients at the Brotherhood’s Coolibah Centre.
Tony Nicholson, Executive Director said ‘We are greatly appreciative of the Governor-General’s time and attention, she holds a special place in the heart of our clients, and we are very pleased that they have the opportunity to tell her of their thoughts and life experiences.
‘Our Women’s Network raises funds for our work with disadvantaged women and girls, investing in programs that support early childhood, education, employment and those caring for others, and recognizing the special role that women play in our community.
‘We are delighted that the Governor-General’s visit highlights the important work done by women in agencies such as the Brotherhood of St Laurence.
The Governor-General will visit the Coolibah Centre, Australia’s first day centre for disadvantaged older people which has been operating in Fitzroy since 1946, where she will talk with members and serve lunch. She will then attend a small reception supporting the Brotherhood’s Women’s Network which is an initiative developed to support disadvantaged women and girls. Established in 2010, The Women’s Network runs a series of events to highlight the challenges faced by women in overcoming poverty.
