Community Jobs Summit

The Community Jobs Summit, held in Melbourne on 1 May, 2009, aimed to explore strategies to maximise the economic and social impact of the Australian Government’s Community Jobs Fund. The summit was auspiced by the Australian Government, in partnership with the Brotherhood of St Laurence, the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul Society and Mission Australia.

The summit considered:

  • the identification of effective models of employment creation by community organisations and local government, with particular focus on the contribution to be made by social enterprises
  • the identification of opportunities in the current environment and any implications for policy and service delivery relating to the implementation of the Community Jobs Fund
  • the dissemination of a wider range of innovative strategies to engage the community sector to maximise the impact of the Community Jobs Fund.
