The Brotherhood of St Laurence has been at the forefront of research into the potential effects of climate change on disadvantaged people and communities. This is enabling us to work with governments, businesses and environmental organisations to devise socially equitable solutions.

Equity in Response to Climate Change Roundtable
March 2007

This roundtable, hosted by the Brotherhood with the Australian Conservation Foundation, the National Welfare Rights Network and The Climate Institute, considered how Australia could ensure that climate change and measures to counter global warming do not worsen social inequality.

Policy submission

Submission in response to A Climate of Opportunity Summit Paper August 2008 (PDF file, 1.2 MB)

This submission to the Office of Climate Change at the Victorian Government Department of Premier and Cabinet recommended assisting Victorian households to adjust to the rising costs of electricity, fuel and other commodities; increasing the climate change resilience of communities; capitalising on new green jobs opportunities in Victoria; and supporting an emissions trading scheme with complementary measures.
