Good Food Matters

About the program

Good Food Matters is an in-home nutritional care service offered to people living in the southern region of Melbourne.

Through the program, community meal attendants visit clients at home and prepare meals with them on a weekly or fortnightly basis, or as frequently as the client requests. They may also shop for groceries together.

Good Food Matters helps older people and people with a disability eat healthily, live independently and stay connected to their community.

Who is eligible?

A person may be eligible for Good Food Matters if:

  • they are a frail older person OR a younger person (55 years and over) with a disability OR the carer of a frail older person or a younger person with a disability
  • they live in the city of Frankston, or some parts of the City of Kingston or the Mornington Peninsula Shire.

Features

Good Food Matters offers:

  • tailored meals based on dietary and health needs, taking into account illnesses such as diabetes, skin integrity problems, and issues related to using multiple medications
  • monitoring of clients’ nutritional intake
  • increase in client confidence and meal preparation skills, which are particularly important for those who have returned home from hospital and need to re-learn cooking as a self-care skill
  • a social environment that encourages appetite and an interest in food.
