Youth Voice

About the project

We believe that policies, research and programs for young people should include their ideas and opinions. Our Youth Voice Project, in partnership with Melbourne Citymission and UnitingCare, has trained young people to conduct research among their peers, to assist those developing policies and programs.

In 2007, nine researchers between 15 and 19 years of age interviewed young people about their transition from school to further education or employment. The project looked closely at how social exclusion affects education and school participation. The results are published in Youth voice: peer research into youth transitions (PDF file, 1.08 MB), a report which has given the Brotherhood new insights about supporting young people.

A second phase of the Youth Voice project commenced in 2008 and was completed in September 2009. This project involved youth in the Melbourne suburbs of Frankston and Braybrook, and Shepparton in regional Victoria.

The Brotherhood is currently working with its partners on the next stage of this project.
