Support for school leavers

Leaving school can be difficult, particularly without support. At the Brotherhood we help school leavers make the transition into the workforce or further study by equipping them with life skills and guiding them with career planning. In addition, as a Registered Training Organisation, and with our Group Training Company, we can offer young people a number of community-based training and education options.
Our pre-vocational training, in areas such as occupational health and safety, time management and Australian workplace culture, helps job seekers prepare for work or work-based training.
The Refugee Youth Development Program (RYDP) gives young refugees the capacity to find their own pathways, develop as leaders and become involved with their communities. It does this through a range of learning activities that build confidence, skills and resilience.
All young people need education options that meet their learning needs. Starting in late 2009, the Brotherhood will offer a range of integrated support and education programs for young people, including those who may not thrive in a traditional school environment.
Peninsula Youth Connections assists young people who are most at risk of disengaging from education or training and therefore not attaining Year 12 or equivalent, and not making a successful transition into further study, training or work.
Connecting Young People to Real Jobs is a youth training and employment partnership between the Brotherhood of St Laurence and Delfin Lend Lease for young people living in Caroline Springs.
The Youth Advocates Project builds the capacity of young people to understand their rights and responsibilities as communications consumers. The Brotherhood runs the project in partnership with four schools that offer VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) in the Frankston–Mornington Peninsula Region.
