Community strengthening

A mother and son in the playground at our Napier Street Child and Family Resource Centre.Healthy and supportive communities contribute to the health and wellbeing of children and families. The Brotherhood works with communities to build connections between people and organisations that make it easier for parents to access help.

Community strengthening involves both empowering local people to be active participants in their communities and improving the service system at the local level to break down barriers that limit accessibility.

The Brotherhood is currently working with schools and children’s services in the City of Hume to build better futures for children and families by developing local community hubs. This approach improves the accessibility and appropriateness of services and creates better linkages between services so they are able to match service responses to the needs of children and families.

Breaking Cycles by Building Community Hubs

A coordinated approach to early childhood education can help children make smoother transitions through early years services and into school, and create stronger communities. This project develops community hubs where child and family services work together to make sure young children and their families receive the best possible support.
