Corporate volunteering

Volunteers serving up healthy treats at our breakfast club program.

Corporate volunteering with the Brotherhood is an effective way for your employees to build skills and develop networks, while making a difference in the community. It can be fun and it offers a unique chance for personal and group development.

We work closely with you to identify volunteering opportunities that match the needs of your staff, your organisation and our clients. The benefits are therefore threefold:

  • Your employees improve their leadership skills, increase their awareness of social justice issues and gain satisfaction from contributing to the community.
  • Your organisation demonstrates corporate social responsibility, which can flow on to improved staff and customer relationships.
  • The Brotherhood and our clients gain access to extra resources and skills, resulting in services that otherwise might not have been possible.

The first step to volunteering with the Brotherhood is to attend one of our corporate volunteering workshops.

Corporate volunteering workshops

Our interactive volunteering workshops provide an overview of disadvantage in Australia and an opportunity to learn about the breadth of the Brotherhood’s work. The full-day program comprises an induction to the Brotherhood in the morning and a ‘hands-on’ volunteer activity in the afternoon.

For more information or to find out about our next corporate volunteering workshop, please contact our Corporate Relations Manager on (03) 9483 2400.

Work placement

Through the Brotherhood’s Given the Chance program, you can offer refugees work experience with your organisation for up to eight weeks. We provide case management to the refugee during the placement. We also support your organisation through Building Bridges, our training program that helps organisations successfully integrate refugees into their workplace.

Through Given the Chance, your employees can also mentor refugees as they settle in their new land and prepare to enter the Australian workforce.

For more information, contact the Given the Chance Coordinator at the Brotherhood’s Centre for Work and Learning by email gtc@nullbsl.org.au or phone (03) 9288 9900.

Pro bono work

There are always opportunities for businesses to provide pro bono assistance to the Brotherhood. By contributing specialist skills, your company can help our staff accomplish projects that directly benefit those experiencing disadvantage in our community.

Over the years, we have gratefully received pro bono assistance from companies in areas such as IT, law, accounting, finance, marketing and event management. In some cases, this assistance has also involved mentoring Brotherhood staff in specialist skills.

For more information about contributing pro bono assistance to the Brotherhood, please contact our Corporate Relations Manager on (03) 9483 2400.
